Srila Jiva Goswami says, “ tasman nirupadhitvam eva rater mukhyasvarupatvam sopadhitvam abhashatvam tattva gaunya vrittya pravarttamanatvam iti,” which means that when bhakti is unadulterated, it is svarupa-bhakti or devotion in its intrinsic state, but when bhakti is adulterated, then it is called bhakti-abhasa.

Bhakti-abhasa is manifested by the gauni-vritti or secondary inclination of the jiva.

The jiva’s intrinsic inclination is called the mukhya-vritti and the inclination which is obstructed or covered is called the gauni-vritti.

Pratibimba-bhakti-abhasa and chaya-bhakti-abhasa are both categorised as gauni-vritti or secondary tendencies.

When bhakti reaches its pure form, it is completely free from the tendencies of pratibimba and chaya.

At that time only the original object itself, pure spontaneous devotion, is manifest.(from Part 2 – "An Analysis of Bhakti-abhasa or the Semblance of Bhakti")

Natural Brotherhood (Bhaktivinoda Thakura):

BhaktiVinoda Thakura

"Gradually, when the offensive portions of the established religions are destroyed, there will be no more differences in the bhajana performed by the various Sampradayas nor any quarrel between them.

Then as brothers, the people of all castes and countries will spontaneously chant the Holy Names of the Supreme Lord together.

At that time, no one will hate anyone or consider others dogeaters; nor will anyone be overwhelmed by the pride of high birth.

The living entities will not forget the principle of natural brotherhood."
