– What is the path of the mahajanas?

– Our mahajanas’ path is that which was shown by Srila Vyasadeva, Sukadeva Goswami, Prahlada Maharaja, and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and His associates. We are not to leave aside that path to follow the instructions of new, puffed-up devotees. (Sajjana toshani 10/10)

– Can the path of spiritual life be freshly created?

– A path cannot be manufactured. Whatever path is there should be accepted by sadhus. Those who are proud and want fame try vigorously to discover new paths. Those who have good fortune from past lives give up pride and respect the established path. Those who are unfortunate walk on a new path and thus cheat the world. (Sajjana toshani 11/6)

– What is the previous mahajanas’ path of bhajana?

– The path of bhajana displayed by the previous mahajanas is to constantly chant the holy names of Hari with firm determination and to show compassion to all living entities. (Sajjana toshani 11/6)

– Why are the books written by the mahajanas honorable?

– The pure devotees know that the books written by the mahajanas are beehives. The newer the beehives, the more the rasas are awakened. (Sajjana-toshani 10/5)

– Did the mahajanas compose books using imagination born of mental speculation?

– "To describe the pure ecstatic pastimes of the living entities is beyond my power of speech, because the words I would use in such descriptions are products of the material world.

Although I am unable to clearly describe the Lord by words, samadhi, and the process of sarajut, I have described the topics of the Lord to the best of my ability.

If one simply takes the insignificant
literal meanings of the words, one will not properly realize the described subject. I therefore request the reader to try to realize the truth through samadhi. One should try to understand subtle points from gross statements, as in Arundhati-nyaya [when one points out a faint star with the help of a bright star].

The process of argument is useless, because it cannot lead one to the Absolute Truth. The subtle process of directly perceiving the soul is called samadhi. I have given these descriptions based on this process. The reader should also follow this process to realize the truth." (Sri Krsna-samhita 1/32-33)

– Is the sweetness of the writing of the mahajanas extraordinary?

– No writing is sweeter than the writing of the mahajanas. Oh! Which book is more instructive on rasa than Bhaktirasamrta-sindhu! All glories to Sri Rupa Goswami! All glories to Sri Sanatana Goswami! We do not find any composition sweeter than theirs. O readers, every day please relish the essence of Sri Brahma-samhita, Sri Krsna-karnamrta, and Sri Bhagavatamrta. (Sajjana-toshani 10/5)

– What is the difference between an ordinary worldly newspaper and a spiritual newspaper? Which reflects the writings of the mahajanas?

– Newspapers that make the readers happy by daily writing of new topics only write about varieties of the material world, but the topics of Lord Hari are different. They never become old. The more one hears or speaks of the Lord, the more one relishes these topics.

O readers! If you have any attachment for the topics of Hari, then relish the descriptions written by the mahajanas again and again. Although this newspaper (Sri Sajjana-toshani) is very small, nevertheless in each edition the conclusive descriptions of the mellows of devotional service written by the previous mahajanas are published part by part.

Since there is no question of worldly stories in this paper, we must publish some compositions of the previous great learned scholars. The material world is full of nonsense talks; therefore do not avoid relishing the pastimes and the science of devotional service available in this small newspaper. There is no doubt that the compositions of the previous great saintly persons will be more covered than our own writings.

Another point of consideration is that those who are fond of reading should certainly read the devotional work of the previous saintly persons. If such readers gradually enter into and relish these writings, they will obtain immense pleasure.

Unfortunately, we love to read our own writing or the writing of some new modern authors. But when we deeply absorb ourselves in the compositions of the mahajanas, we no longer like the modern compositions.

The point is that, we think we can compose better than the mahajanas, but when this illusion is destroyed, we no longer like the modern compositions.

Great personalities and poets do not always come to the material world. They are rare. Therefore it is very difficult to find great poets after Jayadeva Goswami and Sri Rupa Goswami. Only when some recipients of Sri Krsna’s mercy appear in this world, we will again see books like Sri Gita-govinda and Sri Bhagavatamrta. To feel happy by reading the work of modern authors and poets is like imagining one is relishing milk by drinking buttermilk because there is an absence of milk.

We do not find any writing sweeter than the writing of the mahajanas. Oh! What can be a more instructive book about rasa than Bhaktirasamrta-sindhu? All glories to Sri Rupa Goswami! All glories to Sri Sanatana Goswami! We do not find any sweet and conclusive composition other than their compositions.

O readers! Please daily relish the essence of Sri Brahma-samhita, Sri Krsna-karnamrta, and Sri Bhagavatamrta. (Sajjana-toshani 10/5)

Natural Brotherhood (Bhaktivinoda Thakura):

BhaktiVinoda Thakura

"Gradually, when the offensive portions of the established religions are destroyed, there will be no more differences in the bhajana performed by the various Sampradayas nor any quarrel between them.

Then as brothers, the people of all castes and countries will spontaneously chant the Holy Names of the Supreme Lord together.

At that time, no one will hate anyone or consider others dogeaters; nor will anyone be overwhelmed by the pride of high birth.

The living entities will not forget the principle of natural brotherhood."
